The Role 

SPAN’s hardware group is seeking an enthusiastic and driven test technician to work with the hardware engineering team to support the development of our next generation of products to drive home electrification. As a test technician you are responsible for building new test equipment, running R&D lab processes and functional tests that will produce quality data to influence critical design choices. You use your hands on skills in collaboration with a team of electrical, mechanical, and reliability engineers to advance SPAN’s product portfolio.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Implement tests to evaluate new materials, processes, and designs

  • Build, and maintain R&D and reliability test fixtures

  • Help engineers execute tests and identify open opportunities for improvement

  • Collaborate with data analysts and engineers to collect test data

  • Build, instrument, and test prototypes and other test articles

  • Assist with designing experiments and analyzing data gathered from testing

  • Create and maintain test reports and data repositories

  • Clearly communicate progress and issues to a broader team

  • Maintain lab equipment and spec out new equipment when necessary

  • Maintain a clean/organized workspace

About You 

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in a fast-paced engineering development environment

  • Hands-on experience with electrical or mechanical systems (including hobby projects!)

  • High degree of skill at fabrication

  • Ability to operate and maintain a wide variety of hand and power tools, shop tools, and lab equipment

  • Comfort reading + building from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and harness drawings

  • Meticulous and creative approach to problem-solving; excellent note-taking habits

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills

  • Interest and ability in learning new skills on the job

 

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience working with safety and certification testing standards such as UL1998, UL 2594 and UL 67 and UL 916.

  • Experience working with products that comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC)

  • Experience with basic circuit design and Electronic CAD (Altium preferred)

  • Experience with data analysis tools such as python, minitab, R, JMP, Weibull++, etc.

The U.S. base salary range for this position is $92,000 - $125,500 plus benefits, equity and variable compensation for Sales-related roles. This range represents SPAN’s good faith estimate of competitively-priced salary for the role based on national, real-time industry data from companies of a similar growth stage. This range reflects minimum and maximum new hire salaries for the role across US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by location and individual factors including relevant skills, experience and education or training. This range correlates to the relative level of the candidate we believe we need for the role and may require an adjustment for candidates of a different level.
