Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Energy Analyst to join Peak Mining division to advance their power market analysis and intelligence capabilities. As an integral part of the Peak Mining team, the Energy Analyst will be responsible for gathering, analyzing, and processing market-relevant data to support the team in the energy consumption and curtailment of data center assets, greenfield energy price forecasting, power trading, and hedging activities. The Energy Analyst will also monitor power market trends, develop live dashboard for operational reporting, assist in the implementation of energy management strategies, and doing market analysis to source new power globally.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain energy management applications with Excel, Python, and other programming languages.

  • Support the development of data driven algorithmic models to forecast power pricing; and monitor trends occurring within the power grid and wholesale electricity markets to enhance the monetization of our data center assets.

  • Develop strategic perspectives on power by analyzing supply and demand factors such as load, new generation, and regulatory changes; assessing the reliability of meteorological data affecting power prices and work closely with the Power team to monitor ERCOT market dynamics that influence both Day Ahead and Real Time pricing.

  • Support the structuring of Power Purchase Agreements by the Business Development team.

  • Explore short-term trading opportunities in various ISOs through research projects driven by market data.

  • Understand energy market dynamics, key macroeconomic drivers, and communicate ISO-specific research to the team; staying updated on the latest regulatory changes and anticipate impacts of new regulations on Northern Data Group’s operations.

  • Compile reports to provide comprehensive updates on key drivers in the energy markets. Taking the insights found in various monitoring tools, ISO regulatory changes, seasonal drivers, transmission developments…etc. to ensure a current understanding of the evolving energy markets.

  • Source and analyze new site opportunities across the US, including mapping, selecting and reviewing locations with available power.

  • Work as part of a team, participating in special projects/duties as assigned by the group; interfacing with other departments requiring data from the energy team.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering or other STEM fields; Graduate studies are a plus.

  • 3+ years of experience in market monitoring, energy management, bitcoin mining, power trading, or data analysis.

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel.

  • Proficient knowledge of Python, or other programming

  • Competency in Analytical Problem Solving and Strong Communication skills.

  • Passionate about Bitcoin, Bitcoin mining, energy, and power markets is a plus!

  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment where teamwork and independent work ethic are essential.

  • Ability to organize time well, set priorities, and express ideas effectively and fluently.

  • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to organize and maintain a fluid administrative process

  • Statistical and analytical skills for evaluating supplier proposals and pricing

  • Prove ability to quickly learn new software programs

  • Home location: US

  • Work environment: Fully remote

  • Travel: 20%, some site visits required (depending on project)
