About the Role
The EHS Specialist will be responsible for assisting the EHS team with day to day operations, playing a key role in establishing a positive safety culture and implementing EHS programs and policies. This role involves advising on workplace safety, evaluating hazards and environmental impacts, conducting incident investigations and site inspections, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legal requirements.
About the Work
- Developing and implementing job hazard analysis (JHAs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Assisting with Hazardous Materials Business Plans (HMBP) updates via CERS, conducting chemical hazard classifications, and maintaining SDS binders.
- Auditing existing EHS programs, contributing to updates and revisions.
- Maintaining accurate safety documentation (e.g., training records, meeting minutes).
- Reviewing and maintaining the SDS (Safety Data Sheet) library.
- Coordinating and deploying EHS training programs, including HV training, EAP refresher, fire extinguisher training, ergonomics, EHS orientation, hazard identification and risk assessment (HIRA), and chemical safety.
- Designing, installing, and maintaining safety signage.
- Maintaining a strong floor presence to engage with stakeholders and foster a safety culture.
- Scheduling and coordinating hazardous waste pickups for multiple sites.
- Supporting hazardous materials management by maintaining SDS binders and updating classifications.
- Performing risk assessments on equipment and processes.
- Conducting routine EHS inspections, ensuring action items are tracked and resolved.
- Supporting the lockout/tagout (LOTO) program, including labeling, training, verification, and lock distribution.
- Tracking and resolving EHS-related tickets in Jira.
- Managing software tools (e.g., OnSolve, EHS Insight, IFS).
- Handling general administrative tasks, including recordkeeping, PPE and signage ordering, and responding to EHS requests, including practical EHS equipment maintenance.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Emergency Preparedness, Business Continuity, Transportation, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred) or equivalent relevant work experience.
- 2+ years experience in EHS role in R&D or manufacturing environment.
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) certification, Certified Expert Incident Manager (CEIM) certification, or equivalent preferred.
- Knowledgeable in the compliance requirements of the pertinent OSH, EPA, and transportation-related codes, regulations and standards. Experience with DMV, DOT, FMVSS, NHTSA, OSHA, and local regulations.
- Experience in managing an operational incident management or Emergency Preparedness and Response program company-wide in a transportation sector (aviation, maritime, trucking, etc.).
- Experience developing occupational safety training programs, delivering content, and auditing compliance.
- Experience managing safety and/or operational personnel.
- Project management experience.
At Nuro, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. For this position, the reasonably expected base pay range is between $68,875 and $92,625 for the level at which this job has been scoped. Your base pay will depend on several factors, including your experience, qualifications, education, location, and skills. In the event that you are considered for a different level, a higher or lower pay range would apply. This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus, equity, and a competitive benefits package.
