💻 Role

  • Act as the subject matter authority on all things EPD (Engineering, Product, and Design) recruiting. You understand what drives top technical talent—from backend engineers to product managers and designers—and can coach hiring teams and recruiters on how to attract and close them effectively.
  • Foster a high-performance culture within the recruiting team, focusing on mentorship, career development, and accountability.
  • Drive structure and consistency across the hiring process. From job descriptions to interview rubrics and hiring plans, you'll help codify and scale best practices across the EPD org in partnership with the VP of Talent and technical leadership.
  • Identify exceptional, mission-aligned candidates. This is a player-coach role—you'll personally lead hiring for a few high-priority roles to stay close to the work and set the standard for excellence.
  • Empower your team to think beyond the obvious. While LinkedIn and referrals are great, you’ll encourage creative sourcing tactics, tapping into new communities, networks, and tools to uncover the best technical talent out there.
  • Set a high bar for execution. Your team members will often be juggling 8–10+ open roles across functions, and you’ll be the calm in the chaos—coaching them through prioritization and delivering speed without sacrificing quality.
  • You’ll help your team push past traditional hiring funnels, identifying creative strategies to bring underrepresented perspectives into the org—and building inclusive processes that set every candidate up for success.
  • Champion candidate experience and hiring efficiency. You’ll work to smooth out friction points in the interview loop, dig into funnel data, and propose scalable solutions to uplevel our process over time.
  • Cultivate meaningful partnerships. You'll build strong relationships with Engineering, Product, and Design leaders, acting as a strategic advisor to help them hit their hiring goals thoughtfully and inclusively.

US Based:

Team members in this role are required to be within commuting distance of our San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City hubs.

👋 You

Curious about who thrives at Whatnot? We’ve found that low ego, a growth mindset, and leaning into action and high impact goes a long way here, but here are a few criteria we're looking for in this role:

  • You have deep experience hiring across Engineering, Product, and/or Design. Whether it’s closing senior engineers, building PM pipelines, or navigating niche design skill sets—you’ve been in the weeds and can help your team win in a competitive market.
  • You’ve built and led high-performing recruiting teams. You bring significant  experience managing both individual contributors and managers, and are known for leading with empathy, giving honest feedback, and developing team members into trusted partners.
  • You’re energized by systems and scale. You’ve helped build or evolve recruiting programs and processes—from scorecards to sourcing strategies—and you’re eager to continue leveling up how we hire technical talent at Whatnot.
  • You’re passionate about building diverse, inclusive teams. You care deeply about equity in hiring and have experience implementing recruiting practices that create access and representation.
  • You take ownership and move fast. Whatnot is growing quickly, and hiring is a key growth lever. You’re not afraid to dive in, get scrappy, and find ways to get to great outcomes—even when the path isn't fully clear.
  • You know how to craft standout candidate experiences. You treat every interaction as an opportunity to showcase Whatnot's culture, values, and mission—because you know how much those details matter to technical talent.
  • You’re data-literate. You track metrics like time to fill, passthrough rates, and pipeline health—and you use that data to guide your team’s strategy and influence stakeholders.
