Director, Project Manager, AP Test Publishing 

College Board – AP&I 

Location: This is a fully remote role. Candidates who live near CB offices have the option of being fully remote or hybrid (Tuesday and Wednesday in office).

About the Test Publishing Team 

The Test Publishing team spearheads all publishing and vendor management activities for the AP Program, ensuring that AP students worldwide have timely access to high-quality print materials essential for facilitating AP exams. By maintaining rigorous standards and fostering strong vendor partnerships, the team plays a crucial role in supporting the academic success of students globally. 

About the Opportunity 

As the Director, Project Manager, AP Test Publishing within the AP Test Publishing team, you will play a crucial role in the build and execution of requirements and processes for the evolving print exam needs of the AP program, implementing project governance structures and overseeing end-to-end project management to produce all AP exam print needs. Beyond project management, you will lead the strategic alignment of project deliverables across multiple teams including Content and Assessment, Assessment Production, Operations, and third-party vendors. You will drive process improvements and create cross-functional synergies. This role requires a strategic thinker who can see the big picture while ensuring day-to-day execution, can anticipate risks and proactively develop mitigation strategies, and can manage granular details while adapting to shifting priorities. 

In this role, you will: 

Project Leadership and Management (60%): 

  • Oversee the entire project lifecycle, from conceptualization and scope definition to execution and delivery, ensuring seamless cross-functional integration and proactive risk mitigation.  

  • Develop comprehensive project plans, track milestones, manage risks, communicate with stakeholders, and ensure deadlines are met. 

  • Facilitate key project milestones, such as kickoffs and strategic planning sessions, ensuring alignment and accountability across all project participants.  

  • Coordinate with other cross-functional project managers to align project timelines and dependencies across teams to facilitate on-time delivery of print assets.  

  • Coordinate and lead vendor meetings to ensure all contract deliverables are met and maintain strong vendor relationships. 

  • Continuously track project risks, assess their impact, and propose effective mitigation strategies to ensure project success. 

 

Process Development and Optimization (20%): 

  • Drive the creation and continuous improvement of standard operating procedures, templates, and best practices across the Test Publishing team to create efficiencies that clarify and simplify cross-functional processes. 

  • Define documentation processes and ensure cross-functional alignment with processes, maintaining shared drives, document updates, and ensuring version control. 

  • Ensure operational consistency in application of processes.  

 

Reporting and Documentation (20%): 

  • Design and implement high-level dashboards and reporting mechanisms to provide real-time insights into project health and alignment to team goals.  

  • Manages key stakeholder communication, ensuring clear and comprehensive updates are shared across various levels of stakeholders.  

 

About You 

Qualifications and Skills: 

  • 5-8 years of experience in project management, operations, or test publishing. 

  • Background in educational publishing, test development, or large-scale content production preferred. 

  • Proven track record of successfully leading cross-functional teams and multiple workstreams. 

  • Strong understanding of workflow optimization, process improvement, and risk management. 

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute tactically, managing end-to-end project deliverables and aligning them with organizational priorities.  

  • Advanced skills in project management methodologies and tools, with proficiency in Smartsheet. 

  • Comfortable working with external vendors and internal leadership. 

  • Strong ability to analyze trends, track KPIs, and make informed recommendations. 

  • Ability to travel 4-6 times per year. 

  • Authorized to work in the United States. 

 

About Our Process

The hiring range for a new employee in this position is $80,000 to $130,000. College Board differentiates salaries by location so where you live will narrow the portion of this range in which you can expect a salary.   

Your salary will be carefully determined based on your location, relevant experience, the external labor market, and the pay of College Board employees in similar roles. College Board strives to provide our best offer up front based on this criteria.
