The Director of Privacy will help establish and be responsible for the Privacy Engineering team within our Infosec organization.

In this role, you will be a key decision maker and owner of the Privacy Initiatives at Roblox which ensure that Roblox is an engaging and safe place.

This outstanding position requires someone with a comprehensive understanding of both the regulatory landscape and engineering principles.

  • Develop a deep understanding of the regulatory environment, staying informed about evolving privacy laws and compliance standards.
  • Act as a liaison between legal and engineering teams to ensure policies align with regulatory requirements.
  • Advocate for our dedication to privacy and responsible data handling both internally and externally.
  • Build a centralized Privacy Engineering Organization that will partner cross-functionally with multiple other teams.

  • Solid understanding of data privacy and security concepts, including Privacy by Design principles, and have applied experience leading privacy engineering projects
  • A strong understanding of global Privacy and Data Protection regulations (e.g. GDPR, CCPA) and their typical engineering solutions
  • Experience building and leading a build-first privacy and software engineering team from a very early stage, prioritizing the work, setting the vision, and making excellent hiring decisions
  • The ability to develop balanced cross-functional partnerships with key partners and other technical and non-technical teams.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Annual Salary Range

$383,910$440,190 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).

Hybrid Workspace

Employees engage in a combination of remote and on-site work.

We are requiring employees to be in the office three days a week – with core days being Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. On Mondays and Fridays, employees may choose to work remotely, although the office will still be open.
