Atlassian's software powers teams in every industry to collaborate, ideate, and innovate.
The Role

Atlassians can choose where they work - whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
We're looking for a talented Director of Privacy to join our dynamic and collaborative legal team at Atlassian! You'll be joining a global team of privacy professionals scaling a privacy program that builds customer trust, accelerates our business, and leads our industry on privacy and social impact.
Like our customers, we use Atlassian products to collaborate asynchronously with teams around the world. We believe in building with heart and balance, putting customers first, and delivering thought leadership beyond what's required for "minimum legal compliance." It helps to bring a growth mindset, a desire to use and understand our products, intellectual curiosity, and a thirst for innovation!

At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience. In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:
Zone A: $222,000 - 296,000
Zone B: $199,800 - 266,400
Zone C: $184,300 - 245,700
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
Please visit go.atlassian.com/payzones for more information on which locations are included in each of our geographic pay zones. However, please confirm the zone for your specific location with your recruiter.
In This Role, You'll Get To

  • Creatively drive awareness of and strategically influence privacy and data protection issues, including developing training
  • Engage with the privacy legal community and partner with Privacy Team leadership to understand evolving issues, develop team strategy, and to help Atlassian provide an industry-leading privacy program for our customers and colleagues

More About You

  • You have a a solid understanding of global privacy and data protection law and trends
  • You're a fan of SaaS and cloud services, and are aware of industry trends
  • You're passionate about the privacy and data protection issues that our users - end users, organization administrators, developers, enterprise customers, or consumers - care about
  • You think creatively beyond the "legal" box to offer solutions, clearly articulating ethical and risk-based recommendations
  • You take initiative to learn new laws, technologies, and business strategies
  • You effectively navigate a decentralized and complex organization spread across the globe
  • You build relationships which strengthen the connection between legal and partner teams

On Your First Day, We'll Expect You To Have

  • Passion to understand our customers, products, culture, and business model
  • Deep knowledge of applicable privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, etc.), and ideally a CIPP certification
  • Practical, in-house experience partnering closely with stakeholders across the business on privacy policies and practices, particularly governance, product, and analytics teams
  • A knack for distilling complex legal and technical concepts into clear language
  • Strong judgment, intellectual curiosity, and a moral compass that takes your understanding, work product, and business relationships to the next level
  • Demonstrated growth mindset and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, and remote-friendly workplace
