About The Role

Humane is seeking an exceptional Director, Engineering Program Management (EPM) to lead and oversee the engineering program management function across hardware and software teams. This role will manage a world-class team of program managers (EPMs) responsible for driving the development and delivery of Humane's flagship products, including CosmOS (our operating system and its SDK), and the AI-enabled devices. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating strategic processes, aligning cross-functional stakeholders, and ensuring all engineering programs meet their ambitious goals and deadlines.

This leadership position requires a seasoned professional with deep technical expertise, proven leadership ability, and a passion for shipping groundbreaking consumer products at scale. The Director, EPM will ensure that all engineering program efforts—from hardware and software to connectivity, security, infrastructure, and beyond—are unified, efficient, and fully aligned with the company’s vision and business objectives.

What You Might Do

  • Define and implement the vision for the Engineering Program Management function, including the creation of scalable processes for hardware and software program management.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineering program managers (EPMs) across hardware, software, AI Bus, security, connectivity, CV/ML, infrastructure services, and more.
  • Oversee roadmaps, project execution, and end-to-end delivery for multiple complex programs, ensuring the successful delivery of CosmOS (and its SDK), AI-enabled Devices, and other next-generation Humane products.
  • Act as a bridge between software, hardware, design, operations, and executive leadership to align strategies and resolve cross-functional dependencies.
  • Build and maintain dashboards and reporting systems to provide visibility into program health, risks, and progress for internal stakeholders and leadership.
  • Drive strategic planning for new product launches across geographies and partner ecosystems, ensuring seamless collaboration between internal teams and external partners.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks across the engineering portfolio to ensure projects meet both technical and business objectives.
  • Serve as the primary point of escalation for complex engineering challenges, balancing the needs of technical rigor, schedule adherence, and product quality.
  • Foster a collaborative, results-driven culture within the engineering program management organization.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 15+ years of experience in engineering program management, with 10+ years in leadership roles managing cross-functional teams and programs.
  • Proven experience leading end-to-end product development in consumer electronics, software, and/or hardware organizations.
  • A deep understanding of program management methodologies, tools, and best practices, with the ability to scale processes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience influencing C-level executives and cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex, multi-disciplinary programs spanning hardware, software, and cloud services.
  • Strong technical expertise with a proven ability to distill and communicate technical challenges to various audiences.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience shipping 0-to-1 products with cutting-edge technologies, particularly in the AI and consumer electronics space.
  • Strong knowledge of system connectivity (WiFi, BT, GPS, Cellular), hardware-software integration, and infrastructure services.
  • Familiarity with first-party device development, including OS development, hardware engineering, and user experience design.
  • Experience developing and deploying SDK programs 
  • Expertise in developing metrics-driven methodologies to measure program performance, product quality, and team success.
  • A track record of leading programs that involve global partnerships and external vendors.
  • A passion for solving complex problems and managing ambiguity in high-stakes environments.
  • Experience fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and accountability within a program management team.

Salary: $225,000- $265,000

  • The salary range for this role is listed above. Final salary offered is based upon multiple factors including individual job-related qualifications, education, experience, knowledge and skills
