Overall Purpose

The Director, Data Engineering leads a technical team that will implement and run an AWS cloud hosted analytics platform providing access to financial data to data scientists, business intelligence analysts and business owners across all Early Warning Systems via an Enterprise Data Lakehouse and Analytics Data Platform.

Essential Functions

  • Directs and manages a cross functional team of data engineers, cloud engineers, and security engineers to deliver features to business users.

  • Actively contributes toward the vision, organization and strategic leadership of the Data Engineering department.

  • Partners with CDO product managers to prioritize and schedule features on product roadmap.

  • Implements company-wide standards for security and data handling processes.

  • Implements operational controls to ensure that SLOs and SLAs can be met.

  • Builds, develops and directs a high performing team.  Provides leadership and guidance to staff for professional development, which includes planning and coordinating training, defining mentoring strategies, and providing hands on training and education.

  • Provides resource management to the team by participating in the hiring process, coordinating project assignments, documenting and executing annual performance evaluations.

  • Support the company's commitment to risk management and protecting the integrity and confidentiality of systems and data. Ensure inclusion of strong data governance, risk, security, and data quality controls.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education and/or experience typically obtained through a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field.

  • Minimum ten (10) or more years of relevant related experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in building data pipelines and data platform at scale on AWS fully deployed to consumption by a user community.

  • Experience handling sensitive data that required anonymization or tokenization.

  • Experience supporting a data platform in AWS in a production setting including setting up on-call rotations for engineering support.

  • Experience implementing non-functional requirements to make data pipeline and platform self-healing, observable and supportable.

  • Experience collaborating and partnering with stakeholders to define SLAs, KPIs and usage guidelines to deliver a highly available and reliable platform.

  • Background and drug screen.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with some or all of the following technologies:

  • Virtualization – Docker, Kubernetes

  • ETL and data mapping – Airflow, dbt, Fivetran

  • Secure data collaboration environments – AWS Workspaces, AWS Clean Rooms or similar

  • Observability tools – Grafana/Prometheus, Honeycomb or similar

  • Tokenization technologies

Physical Requirements

Working conditions consist of a normal office environment. Work is primarily sedentary and requires extensive use of a computer and involves sitting for periods of approximately four hours. Work may require occasional standing, walking, kneeling and reaching. Must be able to lift 10 pounds occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently. Requires visual acuity and dexterity to view, prepare, and manipulate documents and office equipment including personal computers. Requires the ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers.

The base pay scale for this position in:

Phoenix, AZ/ Chicago, IL in USD per year is: $180,000 - $220,000.

New York, NY/ San Francisco, CA in USD per year is: $190,000 - $230,000.

Additionally, candidates are eligible for a discretionary incentive plan and benefits.
