ReadMe is hiring a Developer Marketer to build on a brand that developers already love. You’ll help strengthen our voice, ensuring that every marketing initiative—from product launches to community engagement—feels authentic, playful, and developer-first. Your work will keep ReadMe top of mind, reinforcing the trust and excitement our users already have for our product.

We're a small team of humans (and one owl) working together to do big things, and we’re growing fast! That’s where you come in. Since we’re a startup, you’ll make a big impact on ReadMe both in the daily responsibilities of your role and beyond.

🦉 Who we are

ReadMe helps more than 5,000 leading startups and tech companies build beautiful, personalized, and interactive developer hubs. If you’ve ever visited the developer docs for Notion or Apple, you’ve used ReadMe!

We love what we do because it’s so much more than just documentation. We’re providing tools for teams to build a better developer experience and make their products and APIs easier to use. We’ve got great support from our investors at Accel who led our Series A, and our interview process reflects the open, caring, and whimsical culture we want to maintain as we scale.

✅ What you'll do here

Are you passionate about developer tools? We’ve crafted something special that our customers love, and we need your help to expand our brand and reach even more people.

  • Build on our brand: We already have a dedicated user base of engaged and passionate developers, but we're eager to continue to cement ReadMe as a beloved brand.

  • Connect with developers: We’re looking for someone who loves working with developers and naturally finds themselves spending time in those circles.

  • Grow our community: From our Slack community to weekly office hours and in-person events, our community is vibrant! But there are a billion new ways we can get people involved.

  • Launch products: Our roadmap is brimming with exciting projects, and we want our customers to share in our excitement! Marketing isn’t just an afterthought; it’s part of the journey from the beginning. We want marketing and product development to feel like a cohesive unit.

  • Content, content, content! We want to put out all kinds of content… live streams, video tutorials, blog posts, Bluesky updates and more. Big or small, we want to share what we’re working on and care about!

  • Events: Okay, everyone’s doing events, so we need to keep upping the game! These days it takes more than an open bar and free pizza to get people excited. From intimate meetups to large conferences like our own API Mixtape (last year featured live music and magic!), we aim to create memorable experiences. We also go to lots of other events and host social events.

  • Keep ReadMe Weird: The internet is full of content vying for attention. We want to keep doing things differently. The more unique the ideas, the more excited we’ll be! Our last launch included a live owl… think we can outdo that next time?

  • Really care: We’re looking for someone who genuinely love developer tools and the people who use them!

💙 You'll love this job if...

  • You love playing around with dev tools and are excited by the challenge of executing marketing initiatives in a fast-moving startup environment.

  • You understand how developers think and enjoy the unique challenge of marketing to a technical audience—maybe you even have some programming experience!

  • You’re a scrappy operator who enjoys digging into complex issues and turning them into actionable plans.

  • You're excited to understand our story and adapt messaging to reach different audiences, and your verbal and written communication skills are on point.

  • You’re a community builder who loves talking to customers and is great at bringing people together.

🌱 How you'll grow within one month

  • Get up to speed on our product, audience, and existing marketing efforts, developing a deep understanding of how we engage with developers.

  • Start connecting with the developer community, identifying key platforms, conversations, and opportunities to engage.

  • Take ownership of small-scale marketing initiatives, such as distributing changelogs, promoting office hours, or running an initial campaign.

🪴 Within three months, you'll...

  • Develop and execute broader marketing campaigns, experimenting with different strategies to reach and engage developers effectively.

  • Shape and refine messaging and content, ensuring we clearly communicate our product’s value in a way that resonates with technical audiences.

  • Build relationships with developers, customers, and industry influencers, becoming a trusted voice in relevant communities.

🌳 Within six months, you'll...

  • Drive major product launches and marketing initiatives, making a measurable impact on growth and engagement.

  • Establish and optimize ongoing community-building efforts, ensuring we have sustainable programs that keep developers engaged.

  • Have a clear strategy in place for scaling developer engagement, distribution channels, and key marketing programs for long-term success.

🛣️ What’s the hiring process like?

  • We can’t wait to read your resume and (hopefully personality-filled) cover letter! Let us know what excites you about developer products, and help us get to know you better.

  • If we think we might be a good fit for you, we’ll set up a 30 minute phone chat with Justina, our Head of Marketing. She’ll tell you more about the role, and get a chance to hear about your experiences.

  • Next will be a second 30 minute phone interview with Greg, ReadMe’s founder, where he’ll dive a bit more into your background.

  • Then we’ll invite you to an "onsite" interview conducted over Zoom! These usually take 3.5 to 5 hours including an hour break in between. We are able to be flexible with the schedule and split it up over two days if that works best for you! We start with a 15-minute get-to-know-you with the team so you can meet the people you’ll be working with, and then have you talk with people one-on-one later on.

  • We’ll let you know how things went within a week! If it still seems like a good fit all around, we’ll extend you an offer. If not, we will update you to let you know so you aren’t left hanging.

✨ Our benefits include…

  • Unlimited PTO with a three-week minimum. 🏝

  • Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance for you, and your dependents. 🩺

  • A One Medical membership. 🧑‍⚕️

  • A wellness stipend for therapy of up to $350 per month for up to 6 months. 😌

  • A wellness stipend of up to $150 per month. 🏋️

  • One-to-one donation matching of up to $1,000 per year. 💸

  • Twelve weeks of paid parental leave after the birth or adoption of a child. 🐣

  • Work from home office stipend of $500. 🖥️

  • Three offsite retreats per year to get together with coworkers and plan for the quarter ahead. ✈️

  • Take a look at our handbook for more information on our benefits! 📘

At ReadMe, we’re committed to cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace. We welcome people of all backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives. We are an equal opportunity employer and a pleasant and supportive place to work. We'd love to have you come join us here!
