Position Summary: The Data Steward is part of the Data and Analytics Organization and functions as a change agent responsible for advancing and maturing Data Management capabilities across the division with a focus on Data Governance and Data Quality. This role is responsible for ensuring the quality and fitness for purpose of the organization's data assets and must ensure the organization’s data is accessible, usable, safe, and trusted. Data stewards transform abstract data into concrete assets for use by Data Professionals and Business Colleagues. This role will also assist with data literacy initiatives across the organization by providing training and guidance on data management practices and tools.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience as a data steward and a proven track record in implementing and managing data governance frameworks and data quality programs. The candidate should possess communication skills that enable them to identify the data owners and capture metadata as

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Build relationships and trust with business leaders.

  • Understand and organize critical data into data domains.

  • Determine data element value, priority, and security level.

  • Capture and maintain metadata.

  • Facilitate data governance conversations to gain alignment and approval on business metadata.

  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of data governance frameworks/playbook and best practices across the organization.

  • Define, document, and enforce data management policies, standards, and procedures to ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, etc.)

  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality.

  • Assist with data remediation efforts.

  • Participate in and contribute to the Data Management Center of Excellence.

  • Applies advanced knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles, and technical capabilities to manage a wide variety of projects

  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures to achieve specific goals

  • Recommends new practices, processes, metrics, or models

  • Works on or may lead complex projects of large scope

  • Projects may have significant and long-term impact

  • Provides solutions which may set precedent

  • Provide guidance and support to data owners and data users on data management best practices.

  • Provide training and guidance to junior data

Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred, equivalent years’ experience considered.

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in data management, data governance, or a related role.

  • Certification in data management or data governance (e.g., CDMP, DGSP) is a plus

  • Prior experience as a Data Steward required.

  • Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, data quality principles, data management best practices, and industry regulations.

  • Experience with data management tools and platforms (e.g., Informatica, Collibra, Ataccama, etc.).

  • Proven ability to lead and manage complex projects and initiatives.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex data issues.

  • Insurance industry experience preferred.

  • Analytical & Word Processing: Must demonstrate command of MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook)

  • Presentation: must demonstrate clear, concise articulation of proposed actions, illustrating opportunity, alternatives, recommendation and associated economics
