Position Summary:
We are seeking a Data Protector Implementation Specialist to lead the design, deployment, and migration of a new Micro Focus Data Protector 23.4 environment. The project involves upgrading from Data Protector 10.80 to 23.4, implementing a new infrastructure on RHEL8, and ensuring a seamless migration of the Cell Manager internal database from the legacy system.
This role requires expertise in Data Protector architecture, backup strategies, and Linux-based deployments. The selected candidate will build and document the first deployment, enabling internal teams to replicate the setup for additional environments.
Project Scope & Responsibilities:New Environment Deployment:
- Design & implement a new Data Protector 23.4 architecture.
- Deploy and configure two physical servers per environment:
- 1 Media Agent (RHEL8)
- 1 Cell Manager (RHEL8)
- Corresponding tape library integration.
- Migrate the Cell Manager internal database from Data Protector 10.80 to 23.4.
- Configure Data Protector policies, backup specifications, and retention schedules.
- Ensure best practices for backup performance, security, and scalability.
Documentation & Knowledge Transfer:
- Develop comprehensive deployment documentation for internal teams.
- Guide internal staff on configuring additional environments (total of 6 sites).
- Provide training and knowledge transfer on Data Protector administration and maintenance.
Testing & Validation:
- Perform validation testing to ensure successful backup and restore operations.
- Optimize backup specifications (currently configured 1:1 to each client).
- Verify integration with existing Windows jump box and remote RHEL6 Cell Manager setup.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any compatibility issues between Oracle8, Virtual Environments, and Linux file systems.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in Data Protector administration, upgrades, and migrations.
- Expertise in Micro Focus Data Protector 10.x & 23.x.
- Strong knowledge of Linux (RHEL8), backup architecture, and tape library integration.
- Experience with Oracle8 backup strategies and VEAgent configurations.
- Ability to create detailed technical documentation and guide internal teams.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in complex backup environments.
