About us

Relay is a cross-chain payments protocol that provides instant low cost cross-chain bridging, swaps, and transactions. We're the fastest and cheapest way to bridge and transact across chains, serving over 5 million users who have completed 59+ million transactions with $6+ billion in volume across 85+ chains.

Our company mission is to make transacting across chains as fast, cheap, and reliable as online payments. We are building the core infrastructure to abstract chains from end user payments, enabling the next billion users to experience the benefits of blockchain without the UX burdens. We are bringing the Relay Network to market through our consumer app (relay.link) and major ecosystem partners, including Opensea, Alchemy, LiFi, Metamask, Coinbase, and more.
About the role

We're looking for a Financial Controller with deep crypto accounting experience to own Relay's financial infrastructure end-to-end. This isn't a role where the systems already exist — you'll be designing and building them. You'll own the month-end close, lead our in-house accounting infrastructure build, and be a critical partner to Data and Engineering.

What you'll do

Build the accounting infrastructure

  • Design and own Relay's in-house crypto accounting layer — cost basis, FIFO/LIFO treatment, on-chain transaction recognition, and multi-asset reconciliation

  • Define how Relay Fees, Gas Fees, and Rebalance Fees are captured with FMV, coin, timestamp, and rate at transaction level

  • Partner with Data and Engineering to build the wallet inventory, balance sheet inputs, and financial tables that underpin the P&L

Own the close process

  • Run month-end and quarter-end close end-to-end: P&L, balance sheet and reconciliation

  • Establish mark-to-market processes and on-chain reconciliation across all wallets and chains

  • Drive toward a complete, auditable financials

About you

  • You care deeply about accounting accuracy and build systems with audit-readiness in mind from day one

  • You ask the right questions and know how to work cross-functionally with Data and Engineering teams to get what you need

  • You're comfortable with ambiguity and good at staying focused on the highest-priority work when everything feels urgent

  • You're genuinely excited about crypto and on-chain finance

Skills and abilities

  • 5+ years in accounting roles, with direct hands-on experience in GAAP accounting for digital assets: cost basis, FIFO/LIFO, mark-to-market, on-chain transaction recognition

  • Accounting systems design experience: you've built or significantly architected an accounting system

  • Comfortable working directly with data infrastructure; familiar with dbt, data modeling, and layered table concepts (you don't need to write the pipelines, but you need to spec and QA them)

  • Track record of independently owning month-end and quarter-end close with strong reconciliation discipline

  • Experience preparing for or managing external audits, with documentation and controls rigor

  • CPA or equivalent certification a plus

  • Prior experience at a DeFi protocol, crypto exchange, or blockchain infrastructure company a plus

What we offer

  • A competitive base salary and equity in what we're building

  • Comprehensive health benefits

  • An unlimited PTO policy with encouraged minimums

  • A remote-first culture with emphasis on collaboration, communication, and flexibility
