Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Construction Engineering Manager to represent the Design Engineering Team and oversee the Design Engineering Support Services Team during construction of a large dam and its associated structures. Design Engineering support services will include coordination and collaboration with the Project Owner’s Team, the Construction Management Consultant Team, and the Construction Contractor’s Team.  Duties will include but are not limited to attending project meetings, providing site visits, coordinating Design Team review of contractor submittals, responding to requests for information, assisting the Project Owner with resolution of design changes, claims, and disputes, and coordinating and supervising the on-site Design Engineering Team personnel for geologic inspections and mapping, tunneling, embankment construction, spillway construction, and outlet works construction.

The successful candidate will focus on meeting and adhering to project timelines, quality standards, and safety requirements throughout the project. Responsibilities will include on-site supervision of field engineering support staff, close collaboration with the design engineering team, the dam owner, the dam owner’s construction management team, and dam safety regulatory agencies. Fieldwork will constitute approximately 60% of this role, with the project construction projected to last at least 8 years.  This role will start prior to construction, during which time the responsibilities will include assistance with design review and coordination, finalizing the design package including contract provisions and specifications, and assistance with the contractor procurement process. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the day-to-day engineering support services team activities, ensuring proper execution of engineering and field support activities.
  • Collaborate with the project owner, contractor, and construction management team as the design team representative to meet project milestones.
  • Oversee quality control and assurance processes for engineering support services deliverables.
  • Prepare and submit detailed progress reports to client.
  • Attend and actively participate in site meetings, resolving issues related to the engineering design
  • Enforce engineering support services staff adherence to safety protocols.

Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications 

    • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field and 8 years of construction field and or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education including dams and appurtenant structures.
    • Valid California Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.

    Preferred 

    • 10 years of construction field experience including dams and appurtenant structures.
    • Ability to relocate as needed and to spend approximately 60% of the time on-site at the project location in Morgan Hill, California.
    • Proven track record of managing engineering teams during construction of large scale projects.
    • Strong leadership and communication skills with experience in team management.
    • Proficient in project management software and construction-related tools.
