The People Team at Asana works to enable all Asanas to achieve our goals as a company in a way that is consistent with our values. We focus on recruiting, developing, and retaining exceptional talent from diverse backgrounds, ensuring that everyone can thrive, grow, and make a meaningful impact. Our work supports Asana’s broader mission: to help humanity thrive by enabling all teams to collaborate seamlessly and effectively.

As a Compensation Manager, you will collaborate with leadership and cross-functional partners to deliver competitive and analytically-driven compensation programs aligned with Asana’s compensation philosophy and values. You will consult with internal leaders and business partners to drive data-backed compensation decision-making. You will be responsible for leadership over one or more major program areas and may have direct reports.

This role is based in our San Francisco office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. Along with most Asanas, you’ll work from this office in person on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays and Fridays. If you're interviewing for this role, your Talent Acquisition Partner will share more about the in-office requirements.

What you’ll achieve

  • Provide expert consultation to one or more client groups on Asana’s compensation philosophy and practices.
  • Partner with HR business partners and recruiters to address compensation questions using insights and data that align with Asana’s talent strategy and compensation philosophy.
  • Lead large, highly complex or strategic projects and process improvement initiatives that have company-wide impact.
  • Act as the program manager responsible for design and execution for one or more of the program areas: annual compensation review cycles, executive compensation, pay equity, sales compensation, manager and employee enablement, SOX compliance, job architecture and pay ranges and/or pay equity.
  • Conduct benchmarking evaluations and analyze salary information to ensure ranges and programs remain competitive.
  • Assist in the administration of Asana’s annual compensation review cycle.
  • Support design, change management, and communication efforts associated with our compensation program.

About you:

  • 8+ years of progressive global compensation administration experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in managing a team.
  • Proven experience managing large difficult and complex projects or processes independently that have significant impact on function and company.
  • Experience conducting competitive market analysis, job matching, market pricing, and forecasting.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with a track record of developing and delivering clear compensation insights and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of partnership with leaders, managers, People Partners, Talent Acquisition and other cross-functional teams.
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel/Google Sheets.
  • Experience with Workday Advanced Compensation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

At Asana, we're committed to building teams that include a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills, as this is critical to helping us achieve our mission. If you're interested in this role and don't meet every listed requirement, we still encourage you to apply.

What we’ll offer

Our comprehensive compensation package plays a big part in how we recognize you for the impact you have on our path to achieving our mission. We believe that compensation should be reflective of the value you create relative to the market value of your role. To ensure pay is fair and not impacted by biases, we're committed to looking at market value which is why we check ourselves and conduct a yearly pay equity audit.

For this role, the estimated base salary range is between $208,000 - $245,000. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified.

In addition to base salary, your compensation package may include additional components such as equity, sales incentive pay (for most sales roles), and benefits. If you're interviewing for this role, speak with your Talent Acquisition Partner to learn more about the total compensation and benefits for this role.
