The Opportunity
The Chief of Staff plays a vital role in the Genentech Finance organization's strategic success and operational effectiveness. This individual partners with the CFO and Finance Leadership Team to define and implement priorities, track progress on objectives, and lead finance-wide projects. They also oversee the execution of strategic and operational initiatives, establish governance frameworks, and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
Key Responsibilities:
Executive-Level Strategic Partnership and Leadership Optimization:

Partner with the CFO and Leadership Teams to formulate and operationalize Finance priorities, ensuring alignment with Genentech and Roche objectives.

Oversee the tracking and reporting of progress on strategic objectives, fostering collaboration between Genentech Finance and Global Finance teams.

Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, providing alternative perspectives to enrich strategic discourse and decision-making.

Analyze enterprise-wide initiatives to identify interdependencies and strategic opportunities.

Lead finance-wide projects they develop and improve our operating model (people, processes, and technology.)

Build a strong network with other Finance Chiefs of Staff across Roche to facilitate the execution of strategic initiatives.

Optimize the effectiveness of the Finance Leadership Teams, ensuring their focus on critical priorities.
Driving Strategic Leadership, Operational Excellence, and Organizational Engagement:

Identify and remove roadblocks to operational excellence, enhancing collaboration and process efficiency.

Oversee the execution of strategic, operational, and cultural initiatives across Finance and Roche.

Develop and implement robust governance frameworks to monitor key decisions, strategic initiatives, and action item accountability.

Strategically plan and facilitate Finance Leadership Team meetings, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and maximizing meeting effectiveness.

Help to foster a culture of collaboration, recognition, and continuous learning.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree required.
-
Minimum of 12+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech/consulting, commercial, strategic, and/or analytical experience.

Experience navigating large, complex, matrixed organizations with a proven ability to lead through influence.

Experience in leading and driving change, inspiring leaders, and enabling capability development.

Strategic mindset with the ability to drive organizational impact.

Ability to handle highly sensitive information with discretion and integrity.

Skilled at translating strategy into execution, balancing big-picture thinking with logistical considerations.
Preferred Qualifications:

Graduate-level degree (e.g., MBA or doctoral degree) in business, finance, or life sciences.

Experience leading large-scale projects and enterprise-wide strategic initiatives.

Previous experience in management consulting is a strong advantage

Strong understanding of financial operations and strategic planning.
This role presents a unique opportunity to work closely with the CFO and Finance Leadership Team to drive impact, enhance collaboration, and shape the future of Genentech Finance.
This position is based in South San Francisco and has an in office requirement of 3 days/wk.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $156,500 - $290,700. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
