  • The Global Category Manager (GCM), Travel Services, is responsible for the spend, strategic plan and leadership of all key initiatives within the Travel Services Category. The scope of the GCM Travel Services role includes responsibility for all associated expenditure within the parameters of the role. Specifically but not extensively, the GCM Travel Services has responsibility for all partners and supplier engagement activities associated with Travel Services. The GCM Travel Services develops the Category strategy as part of the wider Technology Services strategy owned by GCD (Global Category Director). The GCM Travel Services establishes and proactively handles key business stakeholder relationships, leads proactive sourcing projects, influences specification definition & demand management, as well as leading Category specific supplier performance and innovation activities. The GCM Travel Services will be based in US & reports directly to the Technology Services GCD

What will you be doing?

  • Responsible for providing Procurement Category input into the Global Category Lead in order to inform the functional objective setting process
  • Accountable for the delivery of Travel Services  Category targets following engagement in the target setting process
  • Responsible for the collection of supplier, supply market, category and internal business data and information for the Travel Services  Category
  • Responsible for developing the Global Category Strategy for Travel Services, including relevant stakeholder approval.
  • Responsible for the communication of distribution of any Category specific strategies to the relevant partners.
  • Accountable for identifying key supplier risks within the Travel Services  Category and agreeing mitigating activities with the relevant business stakeholders
  • Accountable for ensuring that any supplier performance risks and issues are resolved on a timely basis
  • Responsible for the development and execution of projects based on the Travel Services  Category strategy and business planning activities to feed into the Annual Procurement Category Plan
  • Accountable for ensuring the Category projects agreed to within the Global Travel Services  Category Strategy are implemented in a timely basis in line with the targeted goals
  • Responsible for leading proactive sourcing for the Travel Services  Category
  • Responsible for establishing overall Travel Services  Category segmentation and identification of key supplier relationships
  • Accountable for the implementation of consistent KPIs for the Travel Services  Category
  • Accountable for the management of strategic Travel Services  Category supplier relationships, as agreed in the supplier segmentation process
  • Responsible for proactively owning the S&N innovation agenda with strategic suppliers within the Travel Services  Category, in line with S+N objectives
  • Responsible for the creation, application, completion and review of major contracts for the Travel Services  Category
  • Accountable for ensuring that all activities delivered by Regional Implementation team members / GBS Procurement team members within the Travel Services  are in line with the overall Category strategy
  • Accountable for ensuring negotiated contracts are clearly communicated to business stakeholders for the Travel Services  Category, and that they are consistently applied
  • Responsible for supervising compliance and adherence to Smith & Nephew Procurement policies and procedures within the Travel Services  Category
  • Responsible for ensuring internal issues within the Travel Services  Category are addressed and resolved in a timely manner
  • Responsible for engaging with and leading the performance of all relevant GBS Procurement resources supporting Category / Regional Procurement activities within the Travel Services  Category

What will you need to be successful?

  • Bachelor’s degree required at a minimum, in fields such as business administration, finance, law or a scientific or technical field. Strong preference for CIPS or similar professional qualification.
  • proven experience in a Procurement environment
  • Business Engagement & Influence: Proven alignment of Travel Services  Category Strategy with key partners and successful implementation of key Category initiatives (Cost, Risk, Quality)
  • Value Delivery: Proven achievement of the annual Category savings targets, increased spend under management (influence), support & delivery of the S&N innovation agenda
  • Supplier Performance & Risk Management: Pro-active, Procurement Led supplier relationship management, critical Category risks identified, mitigated and handled through multifaceted plans
