The Job:
As a Category Director- Hand, Tools, Accessories, and Storage, you’ll be part of our Category team working as a remote employee. Category Management is responsible for planning, executing, and analyzing all go-to-market activities for a specific product category and brand through a product's lifecycle underpinned by a continuous focus on innovation. They develop and implement brand and category strategies underpinned by lifecycle management, conduct regular market analysis, and manage the marketing budget allocation. They also ensure correct brand and channel positioning with a clear and consistent brand message and drive commercial resource allocations. Overall, Category Management drives continuous improvement in processes and functions. In this role, you will be the category expert within the brand & category to deliver strategies that align to the category strategy ensuring Implementation across the full product lifecycle. You’ll get to:
- Translation Of Brand Strategy Into Category Strategy & Deliverables
- Driving the team to provide product assortment analysis in terms of evaluating product mix and category attachment rates to drive increased sales and customer/user satisfaction.
- Understand The Trends In the Industry & Competitors To Identify Opportunities
- Understand The Commercial Environment And Retailer Needs to Deliver Optimized Launches
- Ownership of Overall Category To Deliver Profitable Growth
- Category Marketing Budget Allocation & Management
- Setting and managing the Category P&L. Business Performance Reporting (Month/Quarterly)
- Drive monthly review of business summarizing data from other teams (financials, POS, UFR, ratings)
- Co-own internal report outs (i.e. PCM with product management.)
- Conduct whitespace & negative margin analysis on the portfolio, support assortment strategy analysis
- Inform IBP process of strategy/portfolio changes; ensure changes are reflected
- Ensure demand planning is aligned with category growth plans. Ensure operations and finance team alignment.
- Coordinate cross-functional roadmap reviews; drive NPD prioritization as a brand-agnostic partner
- Gather and translate Strategy and Insight teams market intelligence for the overall business into actionable brand-specific and end-user shopper insights
- Provide coaching and mentoring to team and other Category Managers. Responsible for creating a vision for their teams and establishing clear goals. Motivate employees to contribute to the success of the team by providing feedback and recognition
The Person:

- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or marketing
- 10+ years of experience including category management experience.
- Category & Portfolio Strategy Design experience. Setting clear brand architecture to inform how we show up in the market.
- Strategy Communication & Buy-In. Work cross-functionally with Global Category VP, Finance, Channel Marketing, Sales, and Regional Commercial Leads.
- Marketing Budget Management & Allocation
- Product, Brand & Commercial Prioritization
- Govern NPD Process for Alignment to Overarching Brand Direction. Involved in the early-stage ideation phase
- Experienced in the Commercial Market.
- Previous Product Development Experience is preferred.
- Previous Brand & Communication Experience is Preferred. (i.e. Channel Marketing)
- Financial Acumen & Budget Management
- Strong Communication & Presentation Skills including external communication with partners and customers.
- Ability to approach the market with humility and curiosity to dig deep and anticipate issues/opportunities
- Delivering innovations that meet and exceed target end-user needs
- Re-establishing our unique market-leading brand portfolio & innovation that channels need to prioritize
- The ability to drive decisions based on data at every stage of the CGO Operating model
- Being end-user and demand space-centric
- The ability to travel as needed.
