Remote OR Hybrid - This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of Atlanta, Georgia, Austin, Texas, Warren, Michigan, or Mountain View, California, you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum.

As a Digital Software Engineer, you will contribute to the development of cutting-edge digital products, including front-end and backend services. You'll work in a collaborative, cross-functional team within a fast-paced startup environment. Your contributions will directly shape the future of GM's product offerings. What You'll Do:

  • Full Stack Development: Develop across the stack, from web, mobile and in-vehicle applications to backend services. The specific stack can vary per product you are working on.
  • Collaborative Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, and other developers, to translate project requirements into functional software.
  • Cloud Services: Use Azure services for hosting, scaling, and deploying applications, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code, following best practices and coding standards.
  • Testing: Perform unit testing, integration testing, and end-to-end testing to ensure the reliability and robustness of the applications.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, API documentation, and system documentation. Using tools such as Confluence and Lucid Charts.
  • Continuous Deployment: 2-week sprints, release to production
  • Workload Management: Refine, estimate, and update user stories via Jira to help the team effectively manage our workload.


Additional Description
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in back-end development using JVM-based languages such as Java or Kotlin, leveraging frameworks like Spring Boot and Hibernate.
  • A minimum of 7 years of proven experience as a software developer with expertise in both back-end and front-end development.
  • Demonstrated ability in designing and implementing backend systems, including:
    • Database management with PostgreSQL or NoSQL solutions.
    • Data normalization and optimization.
    • REST API development.
    • Data monitoring and analytics platforms.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the following areas:
    • DevOps: Knowledgeable in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and familiar with CI/CD practices (GitHub actions).
    • Web Development: Proficiency in React.JS, HTML/CSS/JS. Experience with React, Redux, and design systems.
    • Mobile and/or Vehicle App Development: Skilled in React Native, and/or Native Android development or Native iOS. Proficiency in Kotlin, Android jetpack libraries, Compose and swift UI frameworks.


What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred):

  • Message Streaming: Familiarity with message stream processing using Apache Kafka or Apache Pulsar, contributing to real-time data handling and analysis.
  • Authentication/Authorization: Knowledge of implementing Single Sign-On (SSO), Azure App Service Authentication, or Azure B2C for secure and seamless user experiences.
  • Machine Learning: An understanding of machine learning frameworks like Scikit-learn is advantageous for projects involving data-driven decision-making.
  • AI models: Understanding the capabilities and integration of AI models into applications is advantageous.


This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington.

  • The salary range for this role is $130,800 to $200,400. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pays program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
