Mission Summary:

We’re seeking highly motivated candidates to join our Autonomy Systems team at Motional to help design and deploy the safest and most reliable Autonomous Vehicle in industry.  You will be part of a team focused on the design and implementation of Fault Detection and vehicle responses across the entire Autonomous Vehicle. The ideal candidate has experience with control system development, demonstrates excellent problem solving skills and is able to learn system designs across the Autonomous Vehicle.  

This opportunity can support remote work within the United States, and may require occasional travel.

What you'll be doing:

  • Complete system analysis across AV Stack and integrated Autonomous Vehicle to support safe and reliable fault coverage
  • Analyze service data to identify emergent issues and drive root cause related to fault detection on the system
  • Contribute to and maintain engineering artifacts (ICDs, requirements, specification models, ICDs) to support vehicle integration related to the fault detection and response
  • Analyze system data to support validation of fault designs
  • Work closely with autonomous software, core, operations and safety teams to deliver quality solutions
  • Support and lead emerging investigations/designs/V&V efforts related to critical problems on the fault detection and response with the autonomous vehicle

What we're looking for: 

  • Experience in control system development/deployment
  • Experience with V&V activities (software testing, Software in Loop, Hardware in Loop, Vehicle Integration)
  • 5+ years in system engineering, software engineering or related fields
  • Experience in Autonomous Vehicles or other robotics industries
  • Ability read control software built in C++ to understand algorithms
  • Experience with data analysis to support engineering design from service data and test data
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with AV simulation for vehicle behavior validation
  • Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field

Bonus Points (not required):

  • Experience writing unit/integration software tests C++ 
  • Experience with ISO 26262
  • Experience with writing Requirements
  • Practical experience with MBSE deployment
  • Demonstrates previous experience owning and deploying end to end products

The Motional Pittsburgh office is located in the new Hazelwood Green development, a culmination of the city’s goal of restoring an economic driver to the neighborhood in a thoughtful, inclusive, and sustainable way. With views along the Monongahela river, the Pittsburgh office is in the heart of this new state of the art development. This position can support remote work within the United States, and may require occasional travel.  



The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors including but not limited to specific skills, experience and expertise, role location, certifications, licenses, and business needs. Salary Range

$131,000$170,750 USD
