Job Summary

Are you an experienced Rail & Transit Engineer OR Construction Management professional, ready to take the next step in your career? TYLin’s San Diego Rail + Transit team is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Project Manager who is eager to transition into a Project Manager role. This is your opportunity to develop leadership skills, oversee project delivery, and work closely with clients while continuing to leverage your technical expertise.

As an Assistant Project Manager transitioning to Project Manager, you will take on increasing responsibility in project planning, execution, and client coordination. You will support senior leadership in managing project scope, budgets, and schedules while mentoring junior team members and contributing to business development efforts.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist in managing rail and transit infrastructure projects from planning to completion, including construction management.

  • Collaborate with project managers to develop and monitor project work plans, schedules, and budgets.

  • Support client coordination, including preparing reports and participating in meetings.

  • Lead engineering analysis and design efforts on projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.

  • Supervise and mentor junior staff, providing technical guidance and support.

  • Assist in managing contracts, including tracking project progress, risks, and financial performance.

  • Participate in proposal development, presentations, and business development initiatives.

  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless project delivery.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain one preferred, but not essential.

  • 6+ years of experience in rail and transit engineering or transportation infrastructure.

  • Experience in construction management activities, including attending site visits, progress meetings, working in partnership with general contractors and other project stakeholders.

  • Strong technical background with exposure to project management principles.

  • Proficiency in industry software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Bluebeam.

  • Familiarity with MS Office suite (Excel, Word, Project); experience with PowerBI and Mosaic a plus.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.

  • Interest in developing client relationships and contributing to business growth.

Additional Information

TYLin is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $78,000 - $138,000 annually for this position and local market. We recognize that each candidate brings a unique set of skills, experience, education and competencies to the table that will be reflected in our offer.TYLin is proud to offer exciting career development opportunities.
