Assistant Controller

Roblox is looking for a highly motivated, experienced and dynamic Assistant Controller to help scale a best in class Accounting organization. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Assistant Controller will work closely with the Controller and senior leadership to manage accounting operations, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and support strategic financial initiatives. To be successful in this role, you should possess strong technical accounting expertise and knowledge of US GAAP, excellent leadership skills and the ability to work cross-functionally. The ideal candidate should be comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment and work well with a diverse team.

This position will report into the Corporate Controller and will be based in San Mateo, CA (hybrid).

You Will:

  • Partner closely with the Corporate Controller, assisting in all areas of Controllership as well as any ad-hoc needs to support the team, cross-functional partners and/or new business initiatives.
  • Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations and lead the execution of the month-end close process for the corporate accounting team, including management of account reconciliations, month-end close tasks and fluctuation analyses.
  • Oversee management of international subsidiaries to ensure compliance with local regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Manage internal and external auditor relationships to facilitate completion of audit procedures in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Partner with other departments, including FP&A, Treasury, Tax, and Legal, to support business initiatives and ensure seamless collaboration on close activities and financial reporting.and ensure alignment with financial reporting goals.
  • Champion automation and efficiency across the Accounting team to scale with the company’s growth, bringing a fresh perspective on what best-in-class looks like.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance on accounting issues; cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging process automation and the use of systems to drive efficiency.
  • Perform technical accounting research and provide technical guidance for non-standard transactions in areas such as leases, equity/stock-based compensation, asset impairment, etc. by documenting memos, as needed.
  • Partner with other departments and externally on ESG reporting efforts.
  • Lead system implementations or upgrades as needed to support accounting operations.
  • Ensure adherence to SOX controls, including documentation.

You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • CPA or equivalent qualification required.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of relevant accounting experience, including a mix of Big 4 public accounting and industry experience within a large, complex, and fast-growth environment.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) and advanced Excel skills.
  • A collaborative leadership style, strong coaching and mentorship skills, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement at all levels.
  • Experience leading a large team through a growth stage; ability to roll up sleeves, and get into the details with teams when needed.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with different levels of employees across the organization.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills and able to handle complex accounting issues.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with and influence partners.
  • Superior organizational and project management skills, with a high attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Extensive experience in establishing and standardizing policies, processes, procedures and controls that are SOX compliant, using technology and best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Annual Salary Range

$233,430$274,080 USD

Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).

Hybrid Workspace

Employees engage in a combination of remote and on-site work.

We are requiring employees to be in the office three days a week – with core days being Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. On Mondays and Fridays, employees may choose to work remotely, although the office will still be open.
