There is no perfect recipe for a great internship program but some of the best have the same ingredients — a sense of belonging, working on projects with a personal connection and mentors who believe that interns really can succeed.
First up, mentors who believe in their mentees.
Take the example of a classroom. There are hundreds of studies that suggest that when a teacher assumes a student will do well in the future — often subconsciously offering extra support and opportunities in doing so — that the student rises to occasion. When students have a mentor who genuinely believes in them, the results are staggering.
Up next on our ingredient list: projects students can personally connect to. A study by Geoff Cohen, a Stanford professor and social psychologist, and his colleagues found that when students were invited to reflect on their core values and integrate those into their school work, the team saw benefits across the spectrum. Students started closing achievement gaps in their GPAs and reported better health and well-being. Some even had long-term effects like better retention rates for high school and college.
Lastly, belonging. Belonging is far more than a tagline on a university brochure — it can mean the difference between a student rising to the top of their class, developing health problems or even becoming an active member of a hate group.
Sounds a little extreme?
Not really, at least according to Cohen, who literally wrote the book on belonging and the radical impacts it can have on a person. Cohen shared in an interview with “The Harvard Edcast” some of the emerging research coming out around what happens when we don’t feel like we belong; ones that point to illness, cardiovascular disease and even early death as a direct result of a lack of belonging, along with a documented susceptibility to dangerous and extremist beliefs when the group can offer a sense of belonging.
When internships can offer the trifecta of belonging, meaningful work and truly supportive — that is what sets apart the ones that maybe just fulfill a college credit and ones that can kickstart a meaningful career.

Dynatrace delivers answers and intelligent automation from data.
What is your relationship to the internship program? Why have you chosen to connect with this program?
I started my journey with Dynatrace over five years ago as a summer intern, after discovering them at a career fair. Their unique booth and presentation stood out to me. After a casual and fun interview filled with interesting technical discussions, I knew that applying was the right decision. Since then, I’ve been a part of the company, initially working part-time during my Bachelor’s and Master’s studies. I was also given the opportunity to collaborate with Dynatrace on my thesis, which enabled me to utilize valuable synergies between university and the tech industry. Last year, I transitioned to a full-time role and became part of the Strato design system team, where I build reusable app components that empower customers and developers to create scalable and user-centric Dynatrace apps with great user experiences.
From day one of my internship, I was treated as a valued member of the team with full access to the code base. My team encouraged experimentation and provided support systems like peer reviews and pair programming to foster my growth. As an intern at Dynatrace, you contribute to a market-leading product and work on dedicated projects that make a real-world impact.
“As an intern at Dynatrace, you contribute to a market-leading product and work on dedicated projects that make a real-world impact.”
What makes this program stand out?
One of the standout perks is the ability to work on theses during working hours, along with receiving a bonus after successful completion. The program also offers the flexibility to explore different locations within Europe and beyond. For example, I had the chance to spend four months in Tallinn, Estonia while developing my Master’s thesis.
An internship is an excellent opportunity to get your foot in the door and start a long-term career at Dynatrace. Interns often get the opportunity to transition to part-time or full-time roles afterward completing the internship. When working part-time during your studies, Dynatrace offers generous flexibility with work hours, such as extended compensatory time during exam periods, and provides both formal and informal mentoring and coaching for career guidance. In my experience, senior leadership shows a genuine interest in everyone’s career development, which is incredibly supportive and valuable.
What tips do you have to share with people looking for internships? What makes someone a good fit for this internship program?
While grades may act as an initial factor when applying, it’s your skills that truly matter. Be prepared to discuss one or two previous projects — a thesis, team project or personal project — that went well or that you are particularly proud of. Highlight the problems you faced and how you overcame them. Showing interest in the topic beyond school or university makes a strong impression.
I highly encourage anyone interested in gaining valuable, real-world experience to consider an internship at Dynatrace. Whether you’re an undergraduate seeking a part-time role or a recent graduate looking for a full-time position, this opportunity is a fantastic transition into your career. If you want to experience Dynatrace’s certified Great Place To Work environment in 13 countries firsthand, an internship is a great way to do so.
Two Barrels is family-owned and operated professional services-as-a- product company.
What is your relationship to the internship program? Why have you chosen to connect with this program?
I am the internship coordinator for our program and had a direct part in the creation of it three years ago. The reason I volunteered to help create the internship program was the impact I knew it could have on the community outside of Two Barrels, but also the internal community as well.
What makes this program stand out?
The goal of our internships is to bring interns that we believe could be hired on at the end of the internship, or at the end of their college career (if they still have school to finish). During their time as an intern they are going to work on projects that directly impact our customers and business. They get multiple networking opportunities with hundreds of employees. We also do multiple professional development workshops. For example, we do a resume and cover letter review where interns meet with multiple recruiters and get help refining those documents. Our internships are also hybrid after the first few weeks, allowing for interns to get experience working in a home environment and an office environment.
Our mentors are also growing within their leadership skill sets. All mentors have one-on-one’s with interns to provide feedback. The mentors also step up when their interns hit a roadblock, and are the ones that develop the interns’ onboarding plan.
“Our mentors are also growing within their leadership skill sets.”
What tips do you have to share with people looking for internships? What makes someone a good fit for this internship program?
The number one tip I have for someone applying for any type of internship is to have projects you can share during the interviewing process. These projects can be from past internships and positions, school or something you created in your free time. Projects allow candidates the ability to stand out by demonstrating the skills they have written down. I remember one time we had a candidate show us a putt putt video game they programmed in their free time. I still remember it three years later!
Ibotta is a performance marketing platform that allows brands to deliver digital promotions to millions of consumers through a network of publishers called the Ibotta Performance Network.
What is your relationship to the internship program and why have you chosen to connect with it? I am the recruiting program manager at Ibotta and have been supporting our internship program for the past two years. I’m passionate about helping early career talent explore their potential. Our 12-week internships provide students with hands-on experience at an innovative tech company, along with access to events, trainings and panels that showcase our culture and commitment to growth. I love connecting with interns, hearing about their impactful work and seeing their fresh ideas that embody one of our values, “a good idea can come from anywhere.”
This program also strengthens connections across the company, as I collaborate with leaders eager to mentor and share their expertise. It’s inspiring to see managers and interns working together, with students jumping in to contribute from day one. Supporting this program is one of the most rewarding parts of my role!
“This program also strengthens connections across the company, as I collaborate with leaders eager to mentor and share their expertise.”
What makes this program stand out?
There are two aspects of Ibotta’s internship program that I believe make it stand out. First, the program is hybrid and based in our Denver headquarters. Whether the intern is local or moves to Denver for the summer with the help of our relocation stipend, they are fully integrated into the company culture from the moment they start. They enjoy the same perks as our full-time employees: weekly in-office lunches, snacks, free parking or public transportation reimbursement and participation in team-building events. Each intern’s onboarding is tailored to their specific team, allowing them to dive into meaningful projects. They are supported by a manager, intern buddy and the broader team to ensure a smooth transition and strong foundation for success.
Second, each intern has the opportunity to create a summer-long project on a topic or initiative they are passionate about. This open-ended format encourages career exploration, crossfunctional collaboration and creative problem-solving. Interns also present their projects to the larger team, often driving real impact. The level of innovation interns bring to the table within three months is both impressive and invaluable to Ibotta.
What tips do you have to share with people looking for internships? What makes someone a good fit for this internship program?
My top tip for securing internships is to leverage your connections. Whether through your university’s career center or networking at career fairs, reach out to individuals at your target companies via email or LinkedIn. Personalize your message to stand out — while not everyone will respond, this proactive approach can set you apart from other applicants.
At Ibotta, we value curiosity, a passion for learning and bold thinking. My experience here has taught me to lean into challenges or uncomfortable situations in the workplace and seize new opportunities as they are presented. Internships are a unique chance to immerse yourself in a company and role — ask questions, explore “what ifs,” and say yes to projects outside your comfort zone. It’s about growth, learning and discovering what you’re truly capable of.
ForeFlight is an aerospace app developer that was founded in 2007 by aviation entrepreneurs.
What is your relationship to the internship program? Why have you chosen to connect with this program?
I’m a former intern at ForeFlight, where I interned during the summers of 2022 and 2023. I joined the program to gain hands-on experience in computer science while still in school, and it turned out to be an incredible opportunity. During my time as an intern, I worked on meaningful projects, some of which even made it to production, which was a huge milestone for me. I learned a lot, improved my technical skills and got to collaborate with some amazing people. The experience was so rewarding that I now work at ForeFlight full-time, and I’m excited to continue contributing to the team and building on the foundation I gained as an intern.
What makes this program stand out?
This program stands out for its thoughtful perks and strong support system. At ForeFlight, many employees are pilots themselves, so everyone shares a genuine passion for aviation. This enthusiasm creates an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere. Across our offices, we have breakfast and lunch a couple of times a week. The program promotes connection through intern-focused activities, allowing everyone to build relationships and feel integrated into the team. Interns are paired with teams that align with their skills and interests, and each is also assigned a dedicated mentor who offers guidance well beyond just managerial oversight. A key highlight is the capstone project — each intern works on a unique project that they present to the entire company at the program’s conclusion. This combination of perks, mentorship and hands-on opportunities makes the program a truly enriching and rewarding experience.

I began my journey at Vestmark as an intern and was fortunate to be invited back as a full-time employee. An internship at Vestmark is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in finance. The company’s size is ideal for interns, offering the chance to branch out and network with talented professionals across various fields. This creates lasting relationships with experienced mentors, opening doors to new opportunities, career growth and valuable industry insights.

What stood out to me most about Vestmark was the pride it takes in its internship program. Interns are given meaningful work that keeps them engaged throughout their time at the company. This enhances their learning experience and provides opportunities to stand out, contribute in impactful ways and make real things happen.
What makes this program stand out?
The career opportunities at Vestmark are incredible. You will hear countless stories of successful interns who were offered a full-time role. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be one of these interns. Additionally, Vestmark is supportive of students’ success. With flexible hours students can still participate in school athletics or classes. Lots of interns find this flexibility crucial to their decision to join the organization.
Vestmark sets its interns up for success immediately and gives them all the resources they need. You will always have other interns to collaborate with as well. I was able to solidify the skills I learned in my classes, applying them in real-world scenarios, putting academic learning into professional application.
Another great perk is the free food. We keep plenty of snacks on hand, and our coffee machine is always well stocked. Interns are also welcome to attend company hosted events, including quarterly gatherings and holiday celebrations. This provides a fantastic opportunity to network with colleagues across different teams in a relaxed setting.
What tips do you have to share with people looking for internships? What makes someone a good fit for this internship program?
When looking for an internship, it is important to stay motivated. The best advice I can give is to persist and be patient. Make sure your resume is as up to date as possible and highlights your unique skills. Landing an interview is always exciting but can be nerve wracking.
Remember that the interviewer will not judge you personally. They are eager to find the right person to fill the role and hope you are the one who will excel. looking for you as well as they wouldn’t want to give you a position that you wouldn’t be able to excel in.
The most valuable qualities of an intern at any company are having a positive attitude and a desire to learn. These will stand out most during your interview. At Vestmark, we place a high value on having positive energy. Additionally, having a solid foundation in technical skills is important. We don’t expect interns to know everything, but having a strong base to build off is crucial.
To any aspiring intern working toward a position, I wish you the best of luck! Stay patient, stay persistent and trust that the right opportunity will come your way.
Quantum Metric helps companies improve their user experience with continuous product design.
What is your relationship to the internship program? Why have you chosen to connect with this program?
I became an intern program coordinator to create an equitable, growth-focused experience where every intern feels supported and empowered. Our program needs to be engaging and flexible, adapting to different departments and project specifications. I provide intern managers with the structure and resources they need to guide their interns effectively. This not only includes tools for interns to be successful in their roles but also ensures they experience our company’s supportive and positive culture while making meaningful connections. One of the most rewarding aspects of this role is the opportunity to collaborate with people across the company whom I wouldn’t normally interact with, strengthening relationships and broadening my perspective. Through this collaboration, we have built a well-structured, results-driven internship program that benefits everyone involved.
What makes this program stand out?
Our internship program stands out for its hands-on, high-impact professional development. Interns actively contribute to meaningful projects aligned with their interests, gaining real-world experience and seeing their impact on business outcomes. They engage directly with senior leadership, collaborate across teams and participate in company events — immersing themselves in our stellar company culture. Beyond project work, we prioritize networking and career exploration, connecting interns with industry professionals inside and outside the company.
“Interns actively contribute to meaningful projects aligned with their interests, gaining real-world experience and seeing their impact on business outcomes.”
For example, when an intern expressed interest in the State Department, her manager facilitated informational interviews with experienced professionals to broaden her career perspective. Our goal is to provide the kind of mentorship and exposure we wish we had when entering the workforce, ensuring interns leave with valuable connections and a better understanding of the career possibilities within their areas of interest.
What tips do you have to share with people looking for internships? What makes someone a good fit for this internship program?
Our team of intern managers agrees that a great intern is proactive, eager to learn and maximizes every opportunity. We look for individuals who start each day asking, ‘what can I take on for the team? I’d love to learn more about XYZ.’ To stand out in the internship search, candidates should build a strong personal brand that highlights their strengths and passions, both online and in conversations. Crunchtime helps restaurant brands achieve ops excellence by managing food and labor costs, food safety, brand standards and the overall customer experience across every location.
What is your relationship to the internship program? Why have you chosen to connect with this program?
I am a former customer success intern and a current customer success operations associate. I began this part-time position immediately following my internship, as I wanted to continue with Crunchtime during my last year of undergraduate studies. I originally applied to Crunchtime’s internship program because I felt qualified for the position, and after the first interview I knew it was a company I wanted to be a part of. The company culture, work environment and the various people I met throughout the summer were all incredible from the very beginning.
What makes this program stand out?
Interning at Crunchtime is more than just participating in an internship program. I felt so welcomed and involved as soon as I began and quickly became connected with many people on my team. On my first day, they had an intern welcome lunch planned at a nearby restaurant, which made me feel appreciated from the very start. My coworkers and managers genuinely cared about my professional success and personal growth during my time as an intern. I met with HR biweekly to share my progress within the company.
“My coworkers and managers genuinely cared about my professional success and personal growth during my time as an intern.”
Every Wednesday, we had “Crunchtime Lunchtime,” where food from a local restaurant was brought to the office. It quickly became my favorite day of the week. They adjusted my tasks based on my interests, and I had a few coworkers who volunteered an hour or more of their time every week to mentor me and help me with my projects. At the end of the summer, I was given the opportunity to continue my position remotely while at school, and I was thrilled to stay with the company. For my first internship, I couldn’t imagine it going any better and I’m so glad it was with Crunchtime.
What tips do you have to share with people looking for internships? What makes someone a good fit for this internship program?
My number one tip for finding an internship is to apply for everything. From the application process to interview preparation, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and not know where to begin. Applying for anything that interests you and relates to your studies and experience is the best way to start. You are more qualified and capable than you may give yourself credit for.
To intern at Crunchtime, specifically, you need to have a teamwork mentality, as you will be collaborating with others to solve problems and complete tasks regularly. You will also need to be disciplined and have good time and project management skills. You are a good fit for Crunchtime’s internship program if you are motivated to learn, not intimidated by challenges, have strong communication skills and are dependable.

The The IGNA-Tasty house of brands includes tastylive, tastytrade, tasty Software Solutions, tastyfx and London-based IG Group acquired tastylive, Inc. These entities work across news and entertainment, fintech and the trading industry.
What is your relationship to the internship program? Why have you chosen to connect with this program?

There are also events for professional headshots for interns, as well as frequent lunch and learns where trade desk staff and members of the executive team sit down and answer any questions you may have.
What tips do you have to share with people looking for internships? What makes someone a good fit for this internship program?
Hot take: Connections can be helpful but are not necessary. I had no connections to this organization and got the job, while there were other companies where I had multiple connections and didn’t even get an interview! Connections are worth having and can, and do open doors, but they guarantee nothing.
You deserve respect throughout the hiring process. A company that is worth working at will invest in you as an applicant and want to get to know you. Even though they have the final say, remember that you are also evaluating them. How they treat you during the hiring process is how they will treat you as an employee!
To make a strong impression as an applicant or employee, you have to be more strategic than most. What are the small ways you can stand out in the application process? For me, it was creating a digital portfolio to showcase my past work and asking thoughtful questions. I make sure to ask myself “what is nobody else doing? How can I stand out?”
For this program specifically, being driven, innovative, confident and sociable will take you far. Connect with your fellow interns and take advantage of your resources.
PureSpectrum provides tools to automate survey creation and source survey takers quickly and effectively for researchers.

I am a former intern and current employee of PureSpectrum. During my internship in 2023, I gained exposure to the fast-paced environment of market research. I was excited to transition into a professional career after graduation, and I found a great opportunity with PureSpectrum. The company created a supportive environment where I quickly became immersed in the team and culture. PureSpectrum demonstrated a commitment to my professional development, both within the company and in my overall career plans. The internship was a valuable period in my life and allowed me to identify the type of workplace where I can excel and recognize my strengths. This experience led me to accept a full-time position after my internship, and I recently celebrated my first anniversary with PureSpectrum this past January.
“The company created a supportive environment where I quickly became immersed in the team and culture.”
What makes this program stand out?
PureSpectrum’s internship program stands out for its focus on professional development, supportive culture and unique learning environment. Engaging and learning from highly skilled professionals in an open office workplace provides unique learning experiences that you don’t get in a traditional workplace. I personally benefited immensely from this, gaining valuable insights from hearing executives share their career journeys, receiving tailored guidance on my professional development and building a strong professional network. These opportunities came from actively engaging in the company culture. In addition, monthly Taco Tuesdays, happy hours and pro-athlete training classes only further emphasize the perks of working for a company as employee-friendly as PureSpectrum.
What tips do you have to share with people looking for internships? What makes someone a good fit for this internship program?
My advice for anyone looking for an internship is to keep an open mind about different industries. Whether you’re building skills or finding something you’re actually passionate about, it all starts with giving the internship all of your attention. For those interested in PureSpectrum’s internship program, being a team player is huge. Team culture is a core value of the company, not only your adoption but your expression of our culture will make you a great fit for the organization. One of the coolest things about this internship is that you get to see how things work day-to-day and contribute to real projects. Don’t be afraid to share your ideas, even as an intern — sometimes a new perspective is exactly what’s needed. Those two things — being a team player and sharing your thoughts — will set you up for success, not just at PureSpectrum, but wherever you end up.
adMarketplace delivers relevant search advertising to consumers on the open web.
What is your relationship to the internship program? Why have you chosen to connect with this program?
I was hired as a campaign specialist following the successful completion of adMarketplace’s 2024 Summer Internship Program. My decision to apply was influenced by a friend who had previously interned at AMP and was later offered a full-time position. Their positive experience and successful transition into a professional role reassured me of the program’s value and the opportunities it could provide for career growth. Throughout my internship, I gained first-hand insight into the structured and supportive environment the program fosters. Coming from a completely unrelated field (education), this support system was vital.
What makes this program stand out?
One of the most valuable aspects of this internship program is its strong emphasis on professional development. The program provides interns with the opportunity to connect with experienced managers and mentors who actively support their learning and growth. These mentors help bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world professional skills, understanding that interns are still in the early stages of their careers.
