Crusoe, Blue Owl Capital and Primary Digital Infrastructure have formed a $3.4 billion joint venture to fuel the development of a new AI data center in Abilene, Texas. The project involves constructing a 206 megawatt, 998,000-square-foot data center at the Lancium Clean Campus that will span two buildings. Crusoe will oversee the design, construction and operations of the facility.

The facility will support high energy-density IT applications and AI workloads at scale. Its design and includes both direct-to-chip liquid cooling and traditional air cooling systems, enabling it to support up to 100,000 GPUs on one integrated network fabric. The project is slated for completion in 2025.

Emphasizing sustainability, the venture hopes to use both on- and off-site renewable resources, like wind developments and an onsite solar installation. The facility is expected to contribute nearly $1 billion to the local economy over the next two decades.

The project is already fully leased to a Fortune 500 company that plans to occupy the space long term, starting in the first half of 2025. The facility will focus on local hiring, creating nearly one hundred local jobs.
