Canva, a graphic design company with offices in Austin and San Francisco, has announced its acquisition of creative software platform Affinity as part of its mission to empower the world to design. With over 175 million users, Canva has been focused on empowering knowledge workers who aren’t trained in design, but now it wants to empower professional designers as well.
Affinity’s suite of professional design software, which serves over three million creative professionals, will help Canva achieve this goal. The company offers a suite of professional design tools, including vector-based graphics software, photo editing software and page layout software.
Canva’s platform allows users to create visual content, like social media graphics, presentations and posters through a user-friendly interface and an extensive library of templates, images and design elements. It works to help users design professional-looking graphics without the need for extensive design skills or software expertise.
The acquisition of Affinity will allow Canva to serve the full spectrum of designers and enhance its capabilities for professional designers. U.K.-based Affinity’s 90-person team will join Canva, and the companies will work on integrating Affinity’s technology into Canva’s platform.
