Today Amazon and Anthropic announced a strategic collaboration that will help accelerate the development of Anthropic’s future foundation models and make them widely accessible to AWS customers. As part of the collaboration, Anthropic will use AWS Trainium and Inferentia chips to develop its models, and AWS will become Anthropic’s primary cloud provider for mission-critical workloads. Meanwhile, Amazon developers and engineers will be able to access Anthropic models using Amazon Bedrock. Amazon will invest up to $4 billion in Anthropic and have a minority ownership position in the company.

Customers are already using Anthropic’s models through Amazon Bedrock to help automate tasks such as developing research reports, producing market forecasts and enabling new drug discovery. Enterprises such as Lonely Planet, Bridgewater Associates and LexisNexis are already taking advantage of this technology.

Additionally, Amazon and Anthropic are each promoting the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies. The companies have joined President Biden and other industry leaders to support a set of voluntary commitments that foster the safe and secure development of generative AI technology.
