Managing Director • Reebelo

Reebelo is an online marketplace for refurbished devices ranging from smartphones and tablets to drones and gaming consoles.

What drew you to Reebelo? How have your expectations been met since coming aboard?

For almost a decade, I have been a vendor of used electronic devices, where my focus was on building and scaling global ecommerce platforms. During this time, I successfully sold over 2 million used devices across 15 countries, utilizing more than 50 online sales channels. This experience has been incredible, allowing me to develop a variety of skills and build a valuable network.

I closely followed Reebelo’s expansion in APAC, admiring their ambition to revolutionize the way people consume technology, while maintaining a genuine sense of humility; working for a technology company that has a meaningful impact on people’s behavior has always been my ultimate aspiration. So, when Reebelo approached me with the opportunity to launch and run their US business, I was both flattered and excited about the challenge.

From day one, I can say that my expectations have been exceeded. The collective ambition, the operational approach and the drive demonstrated by every member of the team have made this experience nothing short of amazing.

What's been your biggest success story since joining the team?

I believe our greatest accomplishment at Reebelo is the exceptional team that we have put together in the US. Joining Reebelo means embarking on an incredible journey with the mission to transform the way consumers perceive consumption. To make that happen, it's essential to gather a team of dedicated individuals who are passionate about making a difference.

Fortunately, we have been able to bring together an amazing group of talented people who work collaboratively every day to achieve this goal. Regardless of their background or experience in the industry, all of our team members share a common drive and enthusiasm for what we do. It has been an absolute pleasure to work alongside such a diverse and committed group.

Reebelo is currently hiring for a handful of roles. How can new hires make an immediate impact at the company?

It all begins with the right mindset. Reebelo is a dynamic startup with grand ambitions. When I engage with a potential candidate, my primary focus is to understand their driving forces and their personal definition of what truly matters. While skills and expertise are important, what truly sets us apart is the collective desire to achieve something greater than ourselves. With the right mindset and a shared determination to overcome challenges, we can accomplish remarkable things.

Software Engineer • Notion

Notion is a software company that uses AI to provide centralized platforms for company information ranging from Wiki-style pages to documents and projects.

What drew you to Notion? How have your expectations been met since coming aboard?

I have a dog named Miso who I absolutely adore, and I used to feel so guilty leaving Miso home alone for so many hours while at work. I was relieved when I found out Notion is a pet-friendly company. I’m sure the feeling is mutual since many pups have made their way into the office and attract loving attention from others.

But this perk speaks to an overall theme of the company — Notion cares about me. They care about my furry friend, as well as my well-being and life outside of work.

From the comforting aesthetics of the office layout to monthly level funds I can use towards gym memberships to a yearly Calm subscription that’s helped me with my sleep—things are done intentionally with people in mind. I’ve realized that in order for me to do my best work, I need a positive and empathetic culture that expands past the office walls – and Notion prioritizes this for all its employees.

What's been your biggest success story since joining the team?

The coolest project I’ve worked on at Notion was released to the public in April! My team launched our first user-facing feature, two-step verification (2FA). The experience was unique since it was many personal firsts — my first time bringing designs to life, my first time partnering with over five teams across three organizations and my first time evolving a feature from start to finish.

At Notion, I’ve focused on infrastructure, backend and security, so you can imagine the shock when I heard we were going to work directly on the product itself. Each step of the process felt like a new skill unlocked. For me, this included learning how to write in React, collaborating with designers to turn their visions into reality, and pairing with QA to solidify the feature’s requirements.

The icing on the cake was seeing how happy we made our Notion community — this was something they’ve been asking for and we delivered. Since the launch, I’ve wanted to comment on every single Reddit, Twitter and LinkedIn post that mentioned Notion’s lack of 2FA and say “It’s finally here, go use it!” The love and support 2FA received has been overwhelmingly positive and makes me love doing what I do even more.

Your company is currently hiring for a handful of roles. How can new hires make an immediate impact at the company?

New hires are in the perfect position to uncover processes that might need fine-tuning. In its simplest form, this can be practiced by asking questions in public channels and starting conversations. As you gain context, don’t be afraid to kindly challenge the system and provide suggestions on how it can be improved, especially if this was a pain point you faced while onboarding.

This also goes hand-in-hand with my next point: Having a mindset that centers around setting up your future teammates for success can strike immediate impact. For example, chances are you’ll run into a problem space that doesn’t have the most up-to-date documentation or any at all. While you’re learning about this area yourself, record your discoveries and publicize them through Slack channels to try and mitigate knowledge. If you’ve run into the problem, it’s likely someone else will run into it too. Doing this will allow others to easily find information and have someone to pair with if needed.

Staff Software Engineer • ServiceNow

ServiceNow is a software company that uses AI to create digital workflows for employees and enterprises alike.

What drew you to ServiceNow? How have your expectations been met since coming aboard?

What drew me to the company was the fact that ServiceNow was doing something different at a time when most companies were stuck doing things the conventional way. For example, ServiceNow was born on the cloud and we were among the first to offer an ITSM package on the cloud when every other company was providing clunky on-site installations with several confusing options. I first used ServiceNow in 2013 and being able to explore APIs, automate and develop apps in no time was a huge area of interest.

What's been your biggest success story since joining the team?

My biggest success story is the automation I brought to the sales user acceptance testing organization and the app I built on the Now Platform to calculate ROI Benefits.

I built the ROI Benefits app after I realized how simple the ServiceNow platform is and how it would enable me to easily build an app where I could simply plug in two values and easily calculate ROI for us. The conventional method to calculate ROI benefits is a very manual process done in an Excel sheet. The icing on the cake was getting the opportunity to present the app I built on stage in front of a live audience.

ServiceNow is currently hiring for a handful of roles. How can new hires make an immediate impact at the company?

As a mentor, I always say that rather than stick to the script, people should take a moment to understand the power of our platform, what it can do and how it can be put to use. Once a person understands how powerful our platform is and how easy it is to develop an app on our no/low-code base, explore the platform and develop an app, they will get a sense of accomplishment.

New hires, no matter what their job description is, should make an effort to explore our platform so that they can talk about ServiceNow with pride like I always do. From having to tell people what ServiceNow was five years ago, to now being met with "wow, ServiceNow" when I tell people where I work and invariably, the follow up reaction is "we use ServiceNow.”

Sr. Manager, Customer Success • Calm

Calm is a healthtech company that provides apps and audio content for sleep, meditation and relaxation.

What drew you to Calm? How have your expectations been met since coming aboard?

When I first learned about the opportunity to work at Calm, it was the company’s mission to make the world a happier and healthier place that stood out as both alluring and ambitious.

There are so many tools and pieces of technology that make the world more efficient, connected and enhanced. However, the opportunity to have such a positive impact on the lives of so many is harder to find. Ever since my first week two-and-a-half years ago, I have found the excitement, creativity and dedication that each employee brings to achieving Calm’s mission incredibly energizing. Teams across the business are committed to delivering the best experience possible for our customers and we anchor our efforts back to the mission at every opportunity.

What's been your biggest success story since joining the team?

My biggest success has been my transition from serving as an individual contributor on the Calm Business Customer Success team to managing our SMB and mid-market customer success teams.

At Calm, there is a huge amount of energy surrounding employee professional development. From mentorship programs to regular performance conversations and investment in tools to track professional goals, Calm leaders and our people team prioritize the continuous investment of individuals. Over the years, my team has grown in size and responsibility but we’ve intentionally built a culture of fun, hard work and showing up for each other, and our Calm Business customers.

Your company is currently hiring for a handful of roles. How can new hires make an immediate impact at the company?

To make an immediate impact at the company, new hires should lead with curiosity and spend the time during onboarding conducting as much shadowing as possible. Calm is a remote-first company so the best way to learn about one’s own team, different business functions and company operations is to dedicate the time to conduct this discovery and reflection.

We have many different programs to connect employees and feel strongly that learning about other team’s responsibilities, challenges and objectives helps connect us all to the broader company goals. Once new hires have a baseline understanding of how things operate, they will feel empowered to take action, suggest improvements and start making their mark at Calm.
