Small and large companies alike have a new tool at their fingertips to help them collaborate and stay organized on work-related projects. Following five years in development, workflow management platform Coda launched earlier this year to help teams stay connected, whether they’re working together in an office or alone at home during a global pandemic.

Coda announced it raised $80 million in a funding round led by Kleiner Perkins on Tuesday. The latest round brings the San Francisco based startup’s total valuation to $636 million.

The company’s platform makes it possible for workplace teams to collaborate on an array of documents from sales templates and marketing materials to legal documents and contracts. The platform also has the ability to pull live data from other workplace apps to provide teams with a centralized location for all of their work-related needs. Coda fully integrates with Slack, Github, Jira and Figma, among others.

“Coda is the doc for teams — whether they’re building a scrappy startup or managing operational systems at a giant enterprise,” a spokesperson for the company said in a statement.

The company will use the additional capital to advance its general growth efforts, with a primary focus on hiring. According to the company, Coda plans on adding to its engineering and go-to-market teams but will be hiring across all departments. The company also recently launched its open-source Doc Gallery, where creators from across the world can share their own document tools, tips and best practices with one another.

“The more we share, the more we can learn, and the smarter we can work and live,” the spokesperson continued.

The company also plans on building out additional data, security and administrative control features to ensure its accessibility and scalability for larger businesses. Coda’s platform is accessible on both Android and iOS operating systems.

“We see people do things in Coda that are truly as powerful as apps, but most of our users start with much more humble objectives [like] taking notes in meetings [or] writing project briefs,” Shishir Mehrotra, CEO and co-founder of Coda, said in a video statement.

Coda, founded in 2014, is used by over 25,000 workplace teams. The company has additional offices in Bellevue and Mountain View.
