Nifty Games, a San Francisco-based games publisher, announced Wednesday that it closed on a $12 million Series A funding round led by March Capital Partners.
The company is partnering with the NFL and NFLPA to launch NFL Clash, a quick session, head-to-head mobile football game. While most mobile sports games are typically restricted to mini-gameplay or simulations, NFL Clash aims to give sports fans a much more immersive experience given limited time constraints. The game is set to debut later this year.
The Series A funding will be used for the creation of additional games moving forward as well as job recruitment, Nifty Games CEO Jon Middleton said in a statement provided to Built In. The company has already secured partnerships with the NBA, NHL and MLB.
“Sports games have yet to hit their stride on mobile, and Nifty Games is excited to team up with the NFL and NFLPA with a mobile-first take that opens up new audiences and engages fans everywhere,” co-founder Pete Wanat said.
Though they launched Nifty Games in 2018, Middleton and Wanat are already industry veterans. Combined, they have developed more than 200 games across 10 different platforms.
Nifty Games has raised a total of $15 million in venture capital to date, according to Crunchbase.
Defy Partners, aXiomatic Gaming, Vulcan Capital, Courtside Ventures, Transcend Fund, Century Game and OneTeam Ventures also participated in the round.
