Systems Engineer: Cloud/Vehicle Networks
Mission Summary:
Motional is seeking a talented Systems Engineer to join the System’s Network and Architecture team.
The System’s Network and Architecture team is responsible for the specification and design of Motional's self driving vehicle physical architecture. A successful Systems Network Engineer will utilize their knowledge of networking, hardware, electrical, software, and mechanical systems to derive system requirements and to work with other engineering stakeholders to ensure successful integration of the system.
What you'll be doing:
- Technical Systems Level requirements
- Requirements analysis and support of network design
- Create and maintain interface specifications
- Define test cases for development testing, verification, and validation
What we're looking for:
- BS in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams including component engineering, software, electrical, and mechanical engineering teams
- Experience working within a systems engineering or design release process
- Experience writing and controlling Requirements and ICDs using Polarian, or a similar requirements management tool
- Knowledge of communication network concepts including protocols, physical layer requirements, bandwidth characteristics, configuration, and automatic arbitration mechanisms
- Knowledge of commercial and automotive system interfaces such as 10/100/Gigabit Ethernet, Automotive Ethernet, CAN / CAN-FD, PCIe, and LVDS
- Familiarity with network diagnostic tools such as CANalyzer and CANdb++ for CAN buses or Wireshark for IP networks
- Knowledge of cloud network and data platforms to have seamless interconnection between the vehicle network and the cloud network
Bonus points:
- Experience with AUTOSAR operating systems
- Experience with IEEE 802.1AS (gPTP)
- Experience with automotive or aerospace industry processes

The Motional Pittsburgh office is located in the new Hazelwood Green development, a culmination of the city’s goal of restoring an economic driver to the neighborhood in a thoughtful, inclusive, and sustainable way. With views along the Monongahela river, the Pittsburgh office is in the heart of this new state of the art development. This position can support remote work within the United States.
The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors including but not limited to specific skills, experience and expertise, role location, certifications, licenses, and business needs. $131,000—$170,750 USD
